VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH: From student to board member, Rebecca Starr makes a difference

Rebecca Starr, a dedicated member of our community, has been instrumental in the success of the Dr. Barbara Seniors Harkins Foundation. Rebecca’s journey from a workshop participant to a board member is a testament to her passion for film and education.

Rebecca first encountered the Foundation through our Break with a Pro Workshops, designed to inspire young filmmakers. Initially a (slightly older) student, her enthusiasm and knowledge soon led to a volunteer position, and eventually, a seat on the Foundation’s board.

Rebecca’s dedication to the Foundation is evident in her work on the recent Screenwriting Mentorship Program. By pairing high school students with industry professionals, the program provided invaluable experience and mentorship. This initiative is just one example of Rebecca’s commitment to fostering the next generation of filmmakers.

When not contributing to the Foundation, Rebecca enjoys spending time with family and friends. Beyond family, some of their favorite things include queer pop star, and your favorite artist’s favorite artist, Chappell Roan, taking daily naps, and drinking chocolate milk. Her passion for film, coupled with their dedication to the community, makes Rebecca Starr a true inspiration.
