This month we are spotlighting our Young Filmmaker: Denver Patterson. She has participated in countless film camps, movie screenings, and various workshops offered by our Foundation.
Denver attends Pepperdine University and is currently a Psychology Major. At Pepperdine, she is involved in several activities such as: Black Student Association, Pepperdine Gaming Club, Waves Investment Club, the Pilipino American Student Association, and a staff photographer for the Pepperdine Newspaper, PGM. You can also catch her DJing for the school’s radio station KWVS on
Tuesday and Thursday night from 10 pm–11 pm.
At The Dr. Barbara Senior Harkins Program, she participated in many programs (Filmmaking to Photography). She was also a 2021 Scholarship Winner! According to Denver each program she took part in prepared her for what she is facing in college. Specifically, by attending these programs, her work ethic increased tremendously. She also believes the programs helped open her mind by equipping her with various skills. When she finds herself being challenged, she tackles the problem head-on because she is confident in her abilities. Many of which Denver developed and improved by being a part of the Dr. Barbara Senior Harkins Foundation.
Denver added that the Dr. Barbara Harkins Foundation holds a special place in her heart. Here her passion for film grew, and she met many beautiful people along the way. She is forever so grateful for everything Mrs. Harkins-James and the Foundation has done for many other young aspiring filmmakers and him!
Thank you Denver for sharing your story with us. We were so lucky to have you as a member of our Program!
