FROM DREAMER TO FILMMAKER: How Dominic used the Foundation to bring his vision to life
Dominic always dreamed of becoming a filmmaker, but he struggled to find the resources and support needed to make his vision a reality. But when he joined our Foundation, he discovered a community of like-minded teens and access to invaluable workshops, speakers, and programs, including our Summer Film Camp. With guidance from mentors, Dominic was able to film his first short film which he will be using for his application to film school. He collaborated with fellow Foundation members, turning his imaginative script into a stunning visual narrative. Through dedication and creativity, Dominic transformed from a dreamer into a confident filmmaker, ready to take on new challenges in the world of cinema.

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH: Alexander Frend—bridging passion and purpose
This month, we are thrilled to recognize Alexander Frend as our Volunteer of the Month. With a genuine passion for film and a dedication to supporting aspiring creatives, Alexander has become an invaluable part of our Break With a Pro Workshops.
How did you become a part of our Foundation?
I began my journey with the Foundation as a high school student when they had monthly film workshops in person. The workshops provided me with invaluable insights into the entertainment industry. It was this early experience that planted the seeds for a deeper commitment to the Foundation and its mission.
What inspired you to join our Break With a Pro workshops as a volunteer?
After completing high school, I sought a way to give back while continuing my personal journey of learning. I wanted to help others while still being part of the workshops. This desire led me to inquire about becoming a volunteer, allowing me to contribute to the program while still nurturing my own passion for film.
Contributions to the Foundation
As a volunteer, Alexander plays a critical role in our Break With a Pro workshops. He helps moderate discussions during the monthly workshops, ensuring that all voices are heard and encouraging student participation. “I try to help students get the most out of the experience,” Alexander explains. Recognizing that many students feel nervous about engaging with entertainment professionals, Alexander strives to bridge the gap, creating a welcoming environment where students can confidently ask questions.
A glimpse at life outside the Foundation
Currently, Alexander is juggling the demands of being an undergraduate student at UC Berkeley, where he is majoring in Digital Media Studies. In addition, he is honing his skills as a product marketing intern at Connexity, a performance marketing company. “Balancing full-time studies with my internship keeps me pretty busy,” he notes, showcasing an impressive ability to manage multiple commitments.
Hobbies and interests
When time allows, Alexander indulges in another passion: Formula One racing. “I try to watch the latest race whenever I can,” he says with a smile. This interest not only highlights his enthusiasm for high-speed sports, but also reflects his appreciation for the strategic and technical aspects of performance, much like the film industry.
Alexander Frend’s commitment to supporting fellow students as well as his passion for film make him a shining example of the spirit and dedication we cherish at our Foundation. We are immensely grateful for his contributions and excited to see where his journey in the entertainment industry takes them next!
